4 Fun & Memorable Things for Expats to Do in Thailand

Thailand is loaded with fun things to do, so a definitive list of attractions in this country would span many pages. However, if you're not looking for a massive selection to sift through and only need a few destinations to include in a daily itinerary, the list we've created is perfect for that. Whether it's your first or fiftieth outing in Thailand, chances are you haven't done at least one or two of the listed suggestions below. With that said, the next time you're in the mood for an adventurous day, be sure to consider the following four destinations and activities that are sure to create memories that will last:

1. Get a Tattoo

If you're an inked tattoo lover, you might have done this already, but most people don't just randomly go around getting tattoos wherever they go. Whether you just moved to Thailand or have been there for several years, getting a meaningful tattoo there will let you commemorate and signify this period of your life with a piece of artwork that will stick with you forever. Even if you don't have any tattoos, it would be cool to say: “I got my first tattoo in Thailand.” Plus, there are so many talented tattoo artists in Thailand's major cities like Bangkok, finding a suitable Bangkok tattoo parlor is easy.

2. Check out the Grand Palace

The Grand Palace is a well-known attraction that you've most likely heard of or passed by before, but many people who stay in Thailand still haven't taken the time to tour the grounds. This massive palace with an area of more than 218,000 sq. meters was home to Thailand's king and government for over 150 years. In the 1780s, a large wall was built around the building for additional fortification, which makes the destination an even more interesting tourist attraction today. If you haven't been there yet, it could be fun to learn a bit about Thailand's history, especially if you're going to be staying there for a while.

3. Climb to the Top of the Sathorn Unique Tower

The Sathorn Unique Tower is a huge abandoned skyscraper in the middle of Bangkok that has grown to look like something out of the History Channel's popular show Life After People. Most tourists will visit to look the place from the street, but only a small percentage will have the audacity to pay the guards at the bottom a small fee for entry to the building. Once inside, you can take the stairs to the top – obviously, the elevator is not an option anymore. Be aware that this is a 49-story tall building, so while the views at the top are incredible and the building is interesting, be prepared for a good bit of stair-walking along the way if you’re trying to go to the top.

So Much to Do and See

Thailand is overflowing with sightseeing and exploration opportunities, so the list above really can't fully do it justice, simply because it's an intentionally brief itinerary that can be completed within the course of a weekend.
